If you have not experienced working with virtual servers, you may want to polish up your skills before working on this self study. You will need as many as eight servers to work through the exercises in this book.

To start I downloaded Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2 R2, Windows Server 2008 Standard and Enterprise and Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 Enterprise. I will be installing the servers on three different platforms.

The domain name for this study will be contoso.com.

1st Server will be Windows Server 2008 Standard and will be named server1.

2nd Server will be Windows Server 2008 Standard Core and will be named server2.

I picked the first server and installed Windows Server 2003. Then I attempted to install Virtual Server 2005.  I got to the point where it stated that IIS needed to be installed before proceeding and came to a stop. I elected to install IIS through the (Manage Your Server) by adding an application server role.
