SA-ERS Emergency Response System

One Touch Emergency Response System

Overview

Reuse your existing Cisco CallManager IP Telephony platform as a one-touch panic system. SA-ERS integrates with Call Manager to allow traditional under desk buttons to initiate a silent alarm and stream audio to designated destination phones, providing the security teams with real-time information.
SA-ERS Features and Benefits.

Call a number, press one button on your phone, or press a under-desk button to trigger a set of user definable actions that would inform the security team of the existing problem.
You may call several security teams at once. The desk phone will not exhibit any signals which may alert the intruder of the alarm.

E-mails and text messages can be sent at the same time. A template system is provided which includes critical information in the message, like calling number, user name, location of the phone, medical info of the user, company.

The security teams can choose on their Cisco XML IP phone from several user-definable options which include: calling a number, hang up and calling back, send mails and text messages.

A TAPI interface allows SA-ERS to monitor under desk buttons, reflected as analog phone lines into Cisco CallManager.

Web interface built upon Microsoft .NET allows the user to manage security groups, add/remove security phones for each group, add/remove actions for each group and select standard security responses.
Syn-Apps delivers only superbly engineered products. They all feature:
Windows installer, with automated CallManager configuration.
Support for CallManager versions 3.x and 4.x (Communications Manager 5.x and 6.x in development).
Web management console.

SQLServer or MSDE databases.
Built-in support features, enabling us to quickly detect and correct problems if they appear.
SA-ERS provides defense organizations with a budget effective way to accomplish their security needs, by reusing existing infrastructure. There are no other available options on the market when it comes to integrating voice and text messages to provide a comprehensive and effective security solution.

Dave Trachsel ...

Defense Switched Network

DSN (Defense Switched Network) replaced AUTOVON (Automatic Voice network in the mid to late 1980s and through the early 90s). AUTOVON was set up to principally be a voice only network, and in many case over analog switch facilities. DSN converted it over to all digital, and included voice, video, and data over the same trunks.

The key difference between DSN and a regular commercial call is they go over different trunks and they terminate at DSN compliant switches. There are several things different about DSN compliant switches, but the key difference is the use of precedence, and precedence codes. They have no real counterpart in a commercial trunk, other than an operator interrupt for an emergency. With DSN, the end user can preempt a trunk and knock another user off the line with the proper precedence level. Some folks out there who know their RFCs and remember the early 760 series standards may recognize those precedence levels.

They are:

FLASH OVERRIDE (FO) -FO takes precedence over and preempts all calls on the DSN and is not preemptible. FO is reserved for the President of the United States, Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, chiefs of military services, and others as specified by the President.

FLASH (F) -FLASH calls override lower precedence calls and can be preempted by FLASH OVERRIDE only. Some of the uses for FLASH are initial enemy contact, major strategic decisions of great urgency, and presidential action notices essential to national survival during attack or preattack conditions.

IMMEDIATE (1) -IMMEDIATE precedence preempts PRIORITY and ROUTINE calls and is reserved for calls pertaining to situations that gravely affect the security of the United States. Examples of IMMEDIATE calls are enemy contact, intelligence essential to national security, widespread civil disturbance, and vital information concerning aircraft, spacecraft, or missile operations.

PRIORITY (P) -PRIORITY precedence is for calls requiring expeditious action or furnishing essential information for the conduct of government operations. Examples of PRIORITY calls are intelligence; movement of naval, air, and ground forces; and important information concerning administrative military support functions.

ROUTINE (R) -ROUTINE precedence is for official government communications that require rapid transmission by telephone. These calls do not require preferential handling.

You will most likely have to deal with the issue of precedence. Also, access to a commercial line is normally done with dialing a 9 first (typical for trunk access); DSN usually uses an 8 - Your mileage may vary; check your local listings.

Finally, DSN uses a slightly different dial plan than the rest of the universe (go figure:-) While you may be able to access the US with a country code of 001, or Germany with a country code of 49, that's not how it's done with DSN. Access is determined by regions, and each region has its own "country code". The regions are:

Canadian Section
Caribbean Section
CONUS Section
European Section
Pacific/Alaska Section
Southwest Asia Section

Dave Trachsel ...

Delay in hearing ringback tone on the IP phone while dialing to a PSTN or PBX network due to overlapping route patterns

This issue could be caused by an overlapping route pattern, which can be found using the route plan reports. With overlapping route patterns, the Cisco CallManager searches for more digits, which leads to a delay in call establishment.

To resolve this issue, dial a number sign (#) at the end of the dialing string.

Dave Trachsel ...

User experiences a delay in call initiation when making local calls

Cisco CallManager uses an interdigit timer to allow users sufficient time to enter the digits required to place their call.

For Cisco CallManagers in North America making use of the @ macro in their route patterns, the simplest solution is to use a route filter.
To resolve this issue, modify the default seven digit route filter.

Perform these steps:

Make sure the local area code does not exist.
Make sure the end of dialing does not exist.
If you are not making use of the @ macro in your dialing plan, you can shorten the interdigit timer value by referring to Delay in Call Establishment:

Dave Trachsel ...
